Running Injury Physiotherapy Glenelg
RUNNING PAIN STOPPING YOU FROM TRAINING?
Running injuries can be frustrating, particularly when they interrupt your training or stop you from doing something you enjoy.
At Rebuild Physio Glenelg, our physiotherapists assess and treat a range of running-related injuries. We combine physiotherapy, strength-based rehabilitation and progressive return-to-running programs to help you manage pain, rebuild capacity and get back to running with confidence.
Common running injuries We Treat
Running injuries can affect different areas of the body and may develop gradually or occur following changes in training.
Our physiotherapists commonly assess and manage:
Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Pain) and other running related knee pain
ITB pain and lateral knee pain
Achilles tendinopathy
Calf strains and calf pain
Shin pain
Plantar heel pain
Hamstring injuries
Hip and gluteal pain
Tendon-related running injuries
Running-related lower back pain
How We Assess running injuries
Understanding why your symptoms are occurring is an important part of managing a running injury.
Your physiotherapist will discuss your symptoms, current training, recent changes in running load and your goals. We may assess your running technique and movement, strength and capacity for activities relevant to running.
Where appropriate, we can also consider factors such as running volume, intensity, recovery and strength training when developing your rehabilitation plan.
Our Approach to running Rehabilitation
Treatment depends on your injury, symptoms and running goals and may include:
Advice around training and load management
Hands-on physiotherapy and taping to offload structures where appropriate
Lower-limb and trunk strengthening
Progressive tendon or muscle loading
Running-specific rehabilitation including running technique modifications if indicated.
Individual return to running programs
Our aim isn’t simply to settle your symptoms. We want to help you build the strength required for running and capacity needed to tolerate your training and work towards your individual goals.
DO I HAVE TO STOP RUNNING?
Not always.
For many running injuries, completely stopping all activity isn’t necessarily required. Depending on your symptoms and diagnosis, your running may instead be temporarily modified while rehabilitation and strengthening are introduced.
Your physiotherapist can help determine an appropriate level of activity and progressively increase your running as your capacity improves.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can physiotherapy help with running injuries?
Physiotherapy can help assess and manage many common running injuries. Treatment may include education, training modification, strengthening, progressive loading and a structured return to running.
Should I stop running if I have pain?
Not necessarily. This depends on the type and severity of your injury. In some cases running can be modified rather than stopped completely, while other injuries may require a temporary break from running.
Why do running injuries happen?
Running injuries can have multiple contributing factors. Changes in training volume or intensity, recovery, previous injuries and physical capacity may all be relevant depending on the individual.
Can you help me return to running after an injury?
Yes. Rehabilitation can be progressively advanced towards running, with training increased as symptoms and physical capacity allow.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly with a physiotherapist at Rebuild Physio Glenelg without a GP referral. Some funded treatment pathways may require one.
